First MMPSA Win!

The Konigshofers Brothers had a truly strong comeback weekend during the MMPSA event held at Maryland International Dragway last weekend. The Otterville-based team won the 2nd event ever hosted by the new Pro Stock association which was born this year.

After struggling during qualifying John defeated a quality field -- besting the very potent Summit Racing sponsored GXP driven by Pete Berner in the final round. In a great dash to the strip -- JK left first (.051 to .088 RT) and won a 6.294 secs 222.91 mph to 6.291 secs at 223.43 mph decision.

The victory moved the Speed North/NitroMoose Ford Mustang into 4th place in the season points standings.

A Flurry of Thirties...

The Konigshofer Brothers SpeedNorth/NitroMoose Pro Stock car was on a mission last weekend at Grand Bend Motorplex, during the IHRA Mopar Canadian Nationals.

After resolving some recent engine issues, the team was rewarded with 3 straight 6.3 seconds runs during qualifying with their best run of 6.377 secs landing them a strong #6 position going into Sunday's eliminations.

Fast at Grand Bend!

Unfortunately some very tricky track conditions in round one resulted in severe tire shake and the team's event aspirations were ended early.

Next up will be the IHRA Northern Nationals at U.S. 131 Dragway -- where the car has run well already this season during an ADRL stop.

Konigshofer Runs First ADRL Event

First ADRL effort....

The Konigshofer Brothers Speed-North/NitroMoose Pro Stocker ran it's very first ADRL event (June 5 & 6th) at U.S. 131 Dragway Martin MI.

"Johnny K" sped to an 4.146 secs at 172.94 mph on the 1/8th mile course which qualified him 11th.

In round one he scored a big win when his opponent Pete Berner had a red-light start. John recorded a winning 4.180 secs at 172.39 mph.

Unfortunately - shortly after that race rain hit the facility and washed out the rest of scheduled action. The conclusion of the Michigan event eliminations has now been deferred to July 3-4 at Topeka KS. The team has not yet decided for sure if it will make that tow.

2009 Debut for NitroMoose PS

Canada's longest running Pro Stock team -- Ontario's Konigshofer Brothers ran their new look Speed North/NitroMoose Pro Stock Mustang for the first time in 2009 participating at the IHRA's Spring Nationals at Rockingham.

Driver "Johnny K" coaxed a swift run of 6.410 secs t 219.22 mph to qualify the car 14th -- however the team lost in round one to eventual winner Cary Goforth when tire shake set in.

Title Defense to Begin....

Kenny Lang is Ready.

IHRA World Champion and NitroMoose Corvette driver Kenny Lang will begin his championship title defense during the upcoming season-opening Summit Mardi Gras Nationals at Baton Rouge, LA.

Lang will head an expected star-studed field when Pro qualifying begins on March 6th.

Based out of Grande Pointe Manitoba, Lang understands the significance of what it means to be an IHRA Pro Mod Champion.

“IHRA Pro Mod features ferocious competition between many great teams. To prevail over that kind of quality competition makes the title even sweeter,” stated Lang. “Winning last year over guys like Castellana and Halsey made my accomplishment mean even more.”

Lang's current season plans are to attempt a repeat as IHRA World Champion and also particpate in ADRL circuit racing.

Billes Wins 3rd CDROY Award!

NitroMoose team Pro Mod crew chief Al Billes earned his 3^rd career selection within the DragRaceCanada Canadian Drag Racer of The Year annual on-line balloting. Billes, whose tuning prowess within the Pro Modified category is already a modern day legend, was named as the top Crew Chief/Tuner for 2008, duplicating his 2006 selection. Billes was also a winner in the inaugural DragRaceCanada Awards program back in 2004 when he was named Pro Driver of the Year.

During 2008 Billes’ played an intricate part in the fortunes of many top running Pro Modified cars on the circuit, not the least of which was Kenny Lang’s IHRA Pro Modified World Championship. Billes’ 51.5 vote percentage prevailed over legendary Western Canadian, Ken Murray (from Winnipeg), who guided Roger Bateman to the NHRA Division 5 TAFC title.

Lang At Las Vegas

Lang at Las Vegas

Just one week after clinching the IHRA Pro Mod World title, Kenny Lang and his NitroMoose.ca Corvette was back in action racing at the Jegs Pro Mod Challenge event held during the NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals.

The event which was Lang's 3rd career NHRA event start was a strong one. He qualified 4th with a 6.057 secs at 237.17 mph. In round one he defeated Rick Stivers running 6.124 secs at 232.47 mph, however in round two the car struck the tires right at the hit and Maryland's Tommy Gray won easily with a 6.034 secs at 238.93 mph driving his Camaro.

We Could Not Be Prouder!!!

Needless to say the fact that the Lang Racing/NitroMoose Motorsports Corvette is now the 2008 IHRA Pro Mod World Champion -- has us feeling both pretty humble and pretty excited.

Driver Kenny Lang, tuner Al Billes, and their hard working team clinched the title yesterday during the final race of the season at IHRA Rockingham.

Kenny went to the semi final round there while closest points rival Mike Castellana lost in a huge upset in round one.

Many have tried before him but it is Kenny Lang who has made Canadian drag racing history -- becoming the very first Canuck to win the IHRA PM World Championship!!

Can You Say -- WORLD CHAMP!!!

Hot Number for "Johnny K"

Johnny K goes 6.311 secs!

John Konigshofer along with his brothers Joe and Frank ran very strong with the Konigshofer/NitroMoose Pro Stock car during last weekend's IHRA World Finals at Rockingham NC. They re-inforced their claim as Canada's all time quickest and fastest Pro Stock car after a career best 6.311 secs at 218.44 mph.

That run, which qualified them 9th for the very quick PS field, (6.358 secs) was better then their previous all time quick Canadian Pro Stock run of 6.371 secs which came during qualifying at IHRA Milan last spring.

Konigshofer was not however able to advance past round one on Sunday. As some consolation, John did get the best view in the house of a history making run. His opponent, Frank Gugliotta ran an all time quick 6.251 secs in the opposite lane. Whew!

NHRA Five Second Flurry!

NitroMoose at Virginia

Kenny Lang and the NitroMoose.ca Pro Mod Corvette tuned up very nicely for next weekend's IHRA World Championship showdown at Rockingham with a solid effort during the NHRA Jegs Pro Mod Challenge event at Virginia Motorsports Park.

After aborting his first qualifying effort, Lang's Al Billes tuned machine ran extremely well and placed in the event's "final four" on Sunday.

Kenny qualified 4th for what was drag racing's all time quickest PM field (6.033 secs!!) with a career best run of 5.919 secs at 242.23 mph. He then beat fellow Canadian Raymond Commisso in round one (with a 5.984 secs run) before stopping Tim Tindle's Mustang in round two with a 5.930 secs.

Lang just missed making the final round versus opponent Scott Ray from Ohio. In a semi-final battle of similar '53 Vettes, Kenny had a slight advantage out of the gate, but his 5.941 secs at 240.94 mph was just nipped by Ray's 5.943 secs at 240.54 mph.

Between qualifying and eliminations, the NitroMoose.ca Corvette reeled off five straight 5-secs elapsed times!!!

Lang to Run NHRA Jegs Challenge

Overall IHRA Pro Mod points leader Kenny Lang will dive into the waters of NHRA Jegs Pro Mod Challenge racing. The popular Canadian racer has confirmed he will participate at the last two NHRA Jegs Pro Mod Challenge events this season.

For Lang, driver of the supercharged NitroMoose.ca '53 Corvette, next weekend's event at NHRA's Virginia Nationals is of particular importance, as it will be utilized as a serious test session in advance of the IHRA's season ending World Finals, which takes place the following weekend at Rockingham NC (Oct. 17-19th). Lang is in the midst of a terrific IHRA championship points title battle and is trying to hold off the formidable nitrous-injected cars driven by Mike Castellana and Jim Halsey. If successful, the Manitoba-based racer could become the very first Canadian to win a Pro Modified World Championship title.

"We are certainly looking forward to going over and playing with the NHRA Jegs guys," said Lang. "The races at Virginia and Rockingham are in similar locations and conditions. That is the real basis for us doing this. We need stay aggressive -- there is no point holding back on anything right now. We are looking to run in the 5-seconds zone. For sure that will be what it will take to go rounds on Sunday at either of these races."

Lang confirmed that during the Virginia NHRA race the team will run their regular IHRA set-up. "It will be 100% IHRA legal," he affirmed "We don't plan to make any changes as that would defeat our purpose."

Lang and his team will then head west to race at the Jegs Pro Mod Challenge season finale event at Las Vegas (Oct. 30th - Nov. 2nd). It will be the second consecutive year he participated at that event.

"Final Four" at Epping

Kenny Lang's NitroMoose Corvette Pro Mod had another strong event performance during last weekend's IHRA Amalie Oil North American Nationals at New England Dragway.

Lang and his team, which is guided by talented tuner Al Billes, went to the semi-final round at the event which did help them maintain their overall #1 points standings within the 2008 IHRA Pro Mod championship chase.

After qualifying 7th with a 6.091 secs (which included top speed of the meet at 239.27 mph) Kenny beat newcomer Fidelio Montrond and Mike Stawicki in the first two rounds. In the semi-finals versus Jim Halsey Lang was out of the gate first with a .039 RT however Halsey's nitrous-injected Camaro ran him down at the finish line: 6.046 secs 233.48 to 6.084 secs 238.98 mph.

Halsey, who is from Maryland went on the win the event beating Mike Castellana in the final round. The runner-up finish by Castellana moved him to within 21 points of Lang (658 to 637) setting up a dramatic confrontation for the championship during the season ending IHRA World Finals at Rockingham (Oct. 17-19th).

"Mike made the final round and he gained on us in points," said Kenny. "It's going to all boil down to Rockingham now -- but we'll be testing before that and we will be ready."

Pivotal Win For Lang NitroMoose

Overall IHRA Pro Modified points leader Kenny Lang scored a very timely win during last weekend’s IHRA Skull Shine Sooner Nationals held in Tulsa Oklahoma. With the win his 3rd of 2008, the driver of the the NitroMoose Motorsports Team ’53 Corvette, managed to extend his 2008 IHRA Championship points margin by a small but still beneficial amount. The Grand Pointe, Manitoba based racer now leads the IHRA World Championship chase by 62 points with two events remaining on the 2008 calendar.

Lang’s win, driving his Al Billes’ tuned supercharged machine, came during very hot atmospheric conditions, a situation which normally swings the advantage to the opposition nitrous-injected entries within the Pro Modified category. Lang also faced and met the challenge head-on of his closest points competitors, eliminating Mike Janis, Tommy D’Aprile and Mike Castellana in very important consecutive rounds of racing on Sunday. Lang had entered eliminations after qualifying 6th overall.

“Because of the conditions I’d have to say that this win was a bit unexpected,” admitted Lang. “We managed to take out three of our top championship contenders in head-to-head competition and I think that speaks volumes about the talent of our team. We are trying to control our own destiny. In this sport it all comes down to racing on Sunday and that happened to work out for us.”

Multi-Car Event Attack - Thank You Robbie!

DragRaceCanada's own NitroMoose Motorsports team fielded it's single most aggressive event effort ever during last weekend's Mopar Canadian Nationals at Grand Bend Motorplex.

Our event attack included for the first time London Ontario's Rob Atchison who supported us by flying the NitroMoose logo banner prominately on his Erickson Manufactuing Chevy Monte Carlo. At Grand Bend, that was an initial one-race deal with the 3X IHRA World Champion.

Robbie was as usual right in the mix in the Alcohol Funny Car category, qualifying 3rd with a 5.871 secs and then winning round one over Tim Stevens. Atchison, who also earned top speed of the meet for the class at 245.09 mph, lost out in a super exciting semi-final round match to cross-town rival Paul Noakes. Paul edged Rob by the narrowest of margins; 5.900 secs to 5.903 secs.

Everyone at NitroMoose Motorsports offers it's congratulations to Paul and his Hoosier Thunder Motorsports team who then went on to win the event.
