While it wasn’t exactly the season’s end result the Happy Hour/NitroMoose Racing Team was seeking – Tim Boychuk and company did finish their 2016 campaign on a strong note.
The team made their final appearance of the season during NHRA’s 25th Celebration California Hot Rod Reunion event held at legendary Famoso Raceway north of Bakersfield California.
They were participating in what was the most ferocious assembly of nostalgia-bodied Nitro Funny Car teams ever – 32 cars entered produced a record quick 16-car bump spot of 5.875 secs!
Tim made three nice qualifying laps and was rewarded with a best effort of 5.764 secs which put him #10 within that demanding field of cars.
In round #1 of competition held on Saturday night – Tim in fact jumped to a huge starting line advantage (.031 to .090) versus his opponent – the defending NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series Champion – Steven Densham. But the race car did have issues on that run — slowing significantly from it’s qualifying pace and in the end Tim’s 5.989 secs could not hold off Denham’s winning time of 5.693 secs.
The entire race team does offer it’s congratulations to fellow class competitor Jason Rupert who won the event!
